Ultimate Guide to Exploring the Aloha State

|

To quench your thirst for adventure, StorQuest has put together a list of our all-time favorite spots across Hawaii. All you have to do is pick up your gear, plan for a full day of exploring, and see where the trail leads you.

Hidden Waterfalls in Oahu

Whether you’re a novice hiker or an expert trailblazer, you’ll love our favorite hike in Oahu. Just 32-miles east of our brand-new self storage facility in Kapolei, the trail to Maunawili Falls is a 2-mile trek tucked away in the Maunawili Valley. The trail starts in a neighborhood and is marked by a small painted wooden sign that takes you down below the towering Pali Cliffs. You’ll wander through Jurassic Park-like terrain – stomping through mud, walking over tree roots, and hopping rocks to cross streams – until you reach the hidden waterfall. Here, steep rocks form an awesome cliff diving spot, where you can get your adrenaline fix and cool off in the pool below.

Beneath the Waves in Maui

It’s no secret – Maui is home to some of the best spots to scuba dive and snorkel. Ahihi Kinau Natural Area Reserve is located on the southern coast, just past Makena. The best part about this gem? You’ll never have to worry about your morning snorkel sesh being overcrowded. The cove is in a marine conservation district, so fishing and commercial operators aren’t allowed – meaning you get full reign of the incredible dive spots. We suggest starting your day around 7 or 8 in the morning to snag a prime parking spot. Gear up with your diving booties to make the rocky entry a little smoother and get ready to explore. You won’t have to swim far to see what makes this place incredible. Venture north toward the first rocky point, where you’ll see turtles hanging out alongside brightly colored fish in mountains of ancient lava rock.

Epic Explorations on the Big Island

Grab your hiking boots, camera, and a rain jacket, and head to one of our favorite spots on the Big Island, the Pu'u O Umi Natural Area Reserve. Here, you’ll find epic Hawaiian landscape and waterfalls hidden away in the middle of dense rainforest. Getting here is half the fun. Bring a four-wheel drive vehicle and take advantage of an epic off-roading experience. The ride takes you to 10,000 acres of endless possibilities – jaw-dropping views of the valley, secluded beaches, and rugged mountain peaks.

River Cruising in Kauai

The last stop on our Hawaiian tour is Kauai – home to Hawaii’s only navigable rivers, including the eastern-flowing Wailua. This river is considered Class Zero due to its tame current, making it a great spot to kayak for first-timers or river pros. The Wailua will take you through the Hawaiian jungle and past Nounou Mountain, the Fern Grotto, and Uluwehi Falls – known as Secret Falls. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, hop in the car and head north to Kuhio Highway for some authentic food truck grub. Fuel up on local favorites like Full-Filling Crepes, Al Pastor Tacos, and Chicken in A Barrel BBQ.
