We all know Miami is the go-to destination for amazing year-round weather, white sand beaches, and unrivaled nightlife. But, there is so much more under the surface that gets overlooked. At StorQuest, we’ve put together a few of our favorite underrated spots for you to take full advantage of. We encourage you to take the road less traveled and discover Miami from a whole new perspective.
Canoe the Loxahatchee River
If you’re ready to switch it up from the beach and party scene, this 8-mile trip will feed your need for adventure. Grab your kayak or canoe out of storage and head to the Loxahatchee River for a true Florida experience. Schedule a full day for this exploration as you cruise under a canopy of cypress trees and past wild birds, turtles, and alligators. Get an adrenaline boost as you go over two dams that’ll feel like miniature whitewater rush. Bring some food and drinks and enjoy a picnic on the water as you enjoy the natural beauty, far from the noise of downtown.
Hit Everglades National Park
For those outdoor enthusiasts who are looking for a more rugged hiking experience, head over to Everglades National Park. With 1.5 million acres of explorable wetlands in South Florida, Everglades National Park is home to dozens of epic trails that’ll put you in the thick of it all. From beginner trails like Anhinga Trail to 22 miles of connecting trails at Long Pine Key, this natural wonderland has something for everyone.
Get Away from the Noise at Elliot Key
Located in Biscayne National Park off the coast of Miami, Elliot Key is the largest island in the park. Formerly the home of pineapple farmers, this island now offers camping under the Florida stars, picnicking in one of the most beautiful places in the world, hiking trails, and swimming alongside local wildlife. So hop on your boat, get off the beaten path, and enjoy some crystal clear water in this little slice of heaven.
Looking for an adrenaline rush while you’re in one of the most extraordinary cities in the country? Take to the track at Homestead-Miami Speedway and get ready to experience the sound of 600-horsepower Nascars blazing past you at 200-plus miles per hour. If the excitement doesn’t get your heart pumping enough, the history of this track certainly will. Homestead-Miami Speedway has hosted various NASCAR, IndyCar, and Championship Cup races. Buckle up, grab your earplugs, and check Homestead-Miami Speedway off your adventure bucket list.
