5 Awesome Weekend Getaways in Colorado

|

When you need a quick weekend getaway, Colorado has your back. Whether you’re seeking a weekend in the Rockies, have tickets to see your favorite band at Red Rocks, or simply want to wander around the natural beauty that is Garden of the Gods, there are a number of awesome escapes within a few hours of Centennial, Colorado, you NEED to check out.

1. Relax at Glenwood Hot Springs Pool

Located in the friendly mountain town of Glenwood Springs, Glenwood Hot Springs Resort is the perfect retreat for those looking for a laid-back spa weekend in Northwest Colorado. Book your stay in one of the renovated suites and then take advantage of the services available at Spa of the Rockies. We’re all about the Mineral Mud Ritual:

“Your experience begins with a steam and is followed by a nutrient-rich body scrub with Warm Moor Mud. After your Vichy or Sunflower shower, your therapist will escort you to the outdoor therapy pool for a mineral soak. This treatment concludes with a massage in a magnesium rich body oil and lotion blend.”

Body scrub? Soaking pool? Massage? We’re in.

Catch a Show at Red Rocks Amphitheater

When you want to catch your favorite band in action but don’t want to wander too far from home, Red Rocks Amphitheater is the premier destination to do just that. This weekend you can head out to see Snoop Dogg and Whiz Khalifa or you can wait until May to see Chance the Rapper. Not big into hip-hop? Red Rocks welcomes performers of all genres. Chris Stapleton, Jethro Tull, Norah Jones, Ryan Adams, The Avett Brothers, and many more musicians are already scheduled to perform this summer. You can check out the full 2017 Red Rocks Amphitheater lineup here.

For those that want to spend a full weekend at Red Rocks, Indian Paintbrush Campground at Bear Creek Lake is a great place to pitch a tent and relax between shows. As they say at Red Rocks, there’s no better place to see the stars.

3. Escape to Garden of the Gods

While Utah may get all the love when it comes to beautiful rock formations (we see you Arches National Park), we here at StorQuest Self Storage in Centennial know that we have our very own natural wonderland only 54 miles south. Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs boasts a 1,367 acre park just begging to be explored. Start with an easy hike on Siamese Twins Trail and fire up your iPhone to Instagram the unique view of Pikes Peak through the natural window of the twins.

4. Hike to Hanging Lake

Hanging Lake is a Colorado legend. Located in picturesque Glenwood Canyon, the hike to Hanging Lake is about as rewarding as it gets. A 3.2 mile out and back trail with 1,220 feet in elevation gain, it’s not easy to get to – especially if there is still snow on the ground – but it is worth the effort!

This geologic wonder is both an awe-inspiring beauty and home to a diverse ecosystem. In order to protect and preserve it for future generations, there are a few things you need to know before you go:

  • No swimming in the lake or standing on or under the waterfalls
  • Please do not walk on the fallen trees within the lake itself
  • Dogs and fishing are not allowed

5. Plan a Mountain Biking Trip to Cheyenne Mountain State Park

Ready to bust your mountain bike out of storage? Cheyenne Mountain State Park is the perfect place to work the rust off your ride while the Rockies thaw out. Home to 21 miles of bike trails and 51 full-service campsites, Cheyenne Mountain offers a unique peak-to-prairie ecosystem for you to explore. Bike along the rock gardens on Blackmer Loop Trail or opt for some fitness training on Sundance Trail.

Once you’ve worn yourself out for the day, set up camp at one of The Meadow Campground walk-in tent sites. Site 48 is one of the Park’s most popular and features a fire ring, partial shade, and a picnic table.
