Epic Cross-Country Ski Trips

|

Whether you’re new to cross-country skiing or a total aficionado, this list offers a variety of awesome destinations you won’t want to miss on your next ski trip. Make your way across the U.S. from coast to coast – or should we say backcountry to backcountry – and see some seriously stunning sights along these long, snowy trails.

Crested Butte Nordic, Colorado

Coming in at the top spot on our list is Crested Butte Nordic, offering 31 miles of perfectly groomed trails with rental equipment options right on-site, access to trails directly from Crested Butte, and no driving required. There’s even fine dining in a trail-side yurt. This is exactly where you want to be! You can purchase a day’s trail pass or buy an unlimited season pass if you’re a Colorado local. And they offer classes for cross-country skiing newbies, making this the perfect weekend getaway for your next ski trip.

Aspen Snowmass Nordic Trail System, Colorado

While you’re in Colorado, you might as well check out this incredible cross-country trail spot. The Aspen Snowmass Nordic Trail System offers 60 miles of free cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails between Aspen, Snowmass, and Basalt Colorado. And you heard us, it really is free!

Royal Gorge Cross-Country Resort, California

For the full-blown aficionados, we have some pretty rad destinations on our list if you’re looking for more robust trail options. Royal Gorge is a jaw-dropping experience complete with 92 miles of trails, groomed-tracked terrain, 6,000 acres of territory, and gorgeous views from every angle. Plus, this is a destination perfect for snow-loving dogs. They even have pet-friendly trails! Their 22/23 season passes are sold out, but they still offer day passes on a FCFS basis.

Mt. Bachelor, Oregon

If you’re planning a cross-country trip later in the season, Mt. Bachelor is the ideal spot. From mid-November to mid-May, Bachelor offers one of the longest-running cross-country ski seasons in the U.S. With 35 miles of machine-groomed trails, there’s plenty of terrain to explore. A trail pass is required, but be mindful of the parking options on site. Spaces can be limited in their parking lots, so plan accordingly.

Whiteface Resort, New York

For another challenging cross-country ski adventure, you’ll for sure want to check out Whiteface Resort. Their variety of ski centers (four total) span across some truly majestic terrain in the Adirondacks and Lake Placid area. With more than 100 miles of trails to traverse, you’ll never want to leave.
