The Best Summer Adventures Around Castle Rock

|

From river valleys to mountain peaks, forest trails and red rocks, Colorado’s Front Range has awesome adventures to offer every outdoor explorer. Sometimes the toughest question is which bucket-list item to check off first! With summer in full swing, here’s a list of awesome adventures near Castle Rock to get the blood pumping and the adrenaline rushing.

Try Some High-Altitude High Jinks

Fly across 10 different zip lines suspended over 100 feet in the air and gather speeds up to 50 miles per hour. You’ll get your money’s worth and then some with zip lining and more activities for adrenaline junkies at The EDGE Ziplines & Adventures in Castle Rock. While the zip lines are the main attraction, you can also try your hand at aerial trekking, challenging your concentration and mobility as you hop from foothold to foothold and walk tightropes, all with a nice view of the distant ground below you. Before you go, test your mettle at the six-level Ninja Course for some heart-pumping cardio craziness.

Explore Chatfield State Park

Looking for a cool place to get out on the boat, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard? Chatfield State Park in nearby Littleton has a little something for everyone. Surrounding the Chatfield Reservoir, this local gem features huge open park land that’s perfect for romping with the dogs. For a flat and easy 10K, check out the Chatfield Dam Trail, a 7-mile out-and-back that skirts the reservoir and serves up gorgeous views of the Platte River Valley. Of course, you won’t want to miss a minute on the water, so check out our convenient RV and boat storage at StorQuest Express Self Storage in Castle Rock for your vehicle parking needs. Storing with us lets you get in, get out, and get back to your epic fun.

Ride the Colorado River

If your version of water fun involves rapids, bends, and more white water than blue, rafting the rivers near Castle Rock is a must. Local outfitter Geo Tours has been running rafting trips for 40 years and can be your trusty guide for whitewater rafting in the area as you’re getting started. Cruise to Clear Creek near Idaho Springs for half-day morning or afternoon runs, or paddle the Upper Colorado for as long as a four-day trip. Stop in at your StorQuest unit, grab your tent and sleeping bag, and you’ll be on your way!

Bike Buffalo Creek

Starving for some killer singletrack? Just an hour and a half west of Castle Rock, rip into some of the best mountain biking the state – and the country – has to offer at the Buffalo Creek trail system. Take in the stunning scenery of the Front Range while winding through ponderosa pine forests for miles of mountain bike paradise. When you’re ready for a serious challenge, tackle the Buffalo Creek Big Loop, an IMBA Epic ride that boasts about 2,500 feet of elevation over 23.6 miles and 85% singletrack.

Conquer McCurdy Mountain

Hitting the apex of Colorado’s outdoor excursions means summiting at least one of its countless formidable mountain peaks. About two hours west of Castle Rock, McCurdy Mountain in the Lost Creek Wilderness offers an exciting challenge with a great payoff. Climb almost 5,000 feet through wildflowers, aspen trees, and stunning red rock formations to the peak at 12,172 feet. Start early if you’re hoping to tackle this 17-mile out-and-back trek in one day, or come prepared for a memorable backpacking trip surrounded by the scenic Front Range.
