Spring Brings the Extreme in Utah

|

Utah is known as one of the best locations in the U.S. for outdoor extreme sports, and for good reason. Mountains, canyons, rivers, lakes, reservoirs, sand dunes, national parks, and so much more are waiting for you this spring, so get out there and get extreme with these incredible must-do activities around Utah.

Mountain Boarding at Snowbasin Resort – Ogden, Utah

Smooth downward dirt trails and wildlife all around you – it doesn’t get any better than this in the SLC area. Try your hand at mountain boarding this spring and experience extreme sports like you never have before with this skateboarding-snowboarding mash-up. Just keep your head up for a few rocky terrain patches along the way and the occasional bear as you glide your way down. Stop at the mountain pond for a nice lunch break intermission before continuing on. If you’re not too sure about mountain boarding, there’s always the tried-and-true mountain bike adventure here.

Paragliding on Powerhouse Mountain (Camels) – Springville, Utah

Utah has some of the coolest spots to take off from with high altitudes and views for days. Sitting just south and east of Provo, Powerhouse Mountain is not only close to town, but also has some prime territory for paragliding. You’ll need to hike or ATV your way up a dirt road before you take off at just over 950 meters high, where you’ll land on a huge open field. Camels is even known as one of the original locations where paragliding first took place in the country.

Wakeboarding on Quail Creek Reservoir – Hurricane, Utah

While the rest of the state (and waterways) are pretty chilly this time of year, the Quail Creek Reservoir holds some of the warmest waters in the region with its mild winters and year-round access. There’s a $15 entrance fee that includes boat ramp use, and there’s plenty of parking this time of year. Load up your boat and get out on the water early this year with a day trip to Hurricane, Utah, near St. George.

Canyoneering Through Zion National Park – Springdale, Utah

This isn’t exactly flying through the air or riding some sick waves on your wakeboard, but canyoneering is an awesome adventure all on its own. This mixture of hiking, scrambling, rappelling, and exploring makes for one of the best outdoor experiences to do in the springtime. Not only are you avoiding the harsh summer temperatures in Utah, but local flora and fauna are at their peak season for some gorgeous views along your journey.
