How to Celebrate Earth Day, Every Day
Taking place on April 22, Earth Day is an annual event established to generate awareness and support for environmental protection. Celebrated globally by over 1 billion people each year, parades and festivals commemorate the planet and our place within it. But this year is different and offers us the opportunity to honor Earth in a new way – all the time and from anywhere. To get you started, StorQuest has put together a list of simple things you can do to celebrate Earth Day, every day.
Get Outside
Sometimes the best way to celebrate Earth Day is to simply celebrate Earth. Go outside and get some fresh air while maintaining social distancing guidelines. Stop to appreciate the details you tend to overlook. Breathe in the scent of mature trees. Find calm in the blades of grass blowing in the wind. You may come to find that familiar sites hold not-so-hidden treasures just waiting for you to explore.
Jot Your Thoughts
While many Earth Day festivities involve large gatherings of people, smaller gestures are just as valid. Sometimes it’s useful to give yourself some time to sit down and start writing about why environmental protection is important to you. Find a cozy place free from distraction and write.
You can start off with a simple bullet list. Then push yourself to elaborate. Think about the awesome adventures you’ve had – the stunning vistas you’ve experienced and the impressions they’ve left on you.
Make Lifestyle Changes
There are a few small yet simple choices you can make to be more respectful of our environment. Toss out your plastic bottles (into the recycling bin) and get yourself a reusable water bottle. If you have the space, plant a garden. If you aren’t already a vegan or vegetarian, institute Meatless Mondays into your diet. You could even join a group focused on green activism to effect institutional changes. A little bit goes a long way!
