Free Things to do in New York This Summer

Exploring the Big Apple doesn’t have to cost you a dime. StorQuest has the perfect guide to soaking in everything this beautiful city has to offer – all you need is some time and a thirst for adventure.

Yoga at Bryant Park

Every week, dozens of yogis set up their mats and “bring it back to center” at Bryant Park. Practicing yoga in the park is the perfect way to wind down from a busy week or to perfect your warrior pose alongside other like-minded New Yorkers. Make sure to get there early – spots are first-come, first-served, as are mats if you don’t have your own. You can get your zen on for zero dollars on Tuesday mornings from 10-11 AM and Thursday evenings from 6-7 PM. Namaste!

Surfing at the Rockaways

Rockaway Beach is a city surfer’s paradise. As the city’s only surfing beach, dedicated groups of swell searchers gather here year-round – rain, snow, or sunshine. Hop on the subway and get a session in before work, or join the other weekend warriors. When you’re done, dry off at the Rockaway Beach Surf Club, or grab a pint at Rockaway Brewing Company.

Kayaking the Hudson

Experience the New York skyline from a whole new perspective. On weekends during the summer and fall, head to The Downtown Boathouse for free kayak rentals. This nonprofit’s mission is to encourage people to safely enjoy the open water and fresh air – now that’s something we can get behind! Check out their website to find out when and where to meet to explore the Hudson.

Bike Governors Island

New York is full of spin studios and biking paths, but it’s also home to a completely car-free, bike-friendly oasis. Governors Island is the perfect place to escape the hustle of the city. Catch the ferry, hop on your bike, and take in a fresh view of the harbor and the Statue of Liberty as you ride the island’s 7-mile loop. Don’t have your own bike? Not to worry, Blazing Saddles has free rentals from 10 AM to noon every weekday.

A New Take on Self Storage

Here at StorQuest, we’re changing the way people think about self storage. We believe that a storage unit should be used as a launching pad for your adventures – a place for you to keep your surfboard between shreds and your bike between rides. Find a unit at our Long Beach, NY, facility and start making more room for awesome.
