In the last fifty years, Earth Day has become a global phenomenon, driving conversations about climate change, resource management, and social impact. These topics have evolved significantly, with a pressing focus on how businesses can lead the charge for sustainability in today's global economy. While it's not always clear how businesses can best approach environmental sustainability, with a mix of hope and teamwork, we can find an easy and meaningful way to do it together!
In her book “The Book of Hope: A Survival Guide for Trying Times,” Jane Goodall defines hope as not merely a dream for the impossible but as a driving force for engaging with solutions–a determined effort. Goodall writes, “It is the dogged determination to do what is in our power to make the better future we wish for actually happen.” This perspective fuels the millions of people worldwide who participate in Earth Day events and those championing environmental efforts year-round.
This year our parent company, The William Warren Group, released their inaugural Impact Report, outlining commitments to measuring and reducing environmental impacts. We’re actively engaging in our internal and external ecosystems where we can collaborate to create impactful shifts, from our development practices to building and championing a diverse workforce. Here at StorQuest, we are determined to be a part of the solution!
Just as important as hope is teamwork. Teamwork provides us at StorQuest the foundation to learn, listen, and connect to better understand how to foster sustainable business practices. Similar to the Wood Wide Web, discovered by Suzanne Simard, which shows different tree species collaborate to support the health of a forest, StorQuest is passionate about collaborating with organizations to support the health of the environment. Since 2019, StorQuest for a Cause has been donating $1 for every new unit rented towards organizations such as SeaTrees and One Tree Planted, which are championing restoration projects in the sea and on land. This Earth Day, the team at the William Warren Group will be taking action by cleaning up a stretch of Santa Monica Beach. And we’re not stopping there! In the coming months, we will be adding new organizations to StorQuest for a Cause and are planning to dedicate more time to local volunteer opportunities. We’re excited to broaden our connection to causes that are a part of our Wood Wide Web!
Just like a mother tree and seedling or a bee and flower, business and the environment can depend on one another for growth and regeneration, as long as we hope for that future together. Here is to another 50 years of Earth Days!
