5 Ways to Stash Your Holiday Gear

|

With the holidays right around the corner, and schedules and living spaces feeling tight, we’re all looking for ways to squeeze in a little more awesome. If you’re looking for some helpful holiday storage solutions – StorQuest has your back! Here are five ways to stash your holiday gear that will help you get back to living big.

The Best Way Is Out of the Way

Stowing your holiday gear and pulling it out again can be a huge headache if you don’t take time to plan out where and how you’ll store it. You don’t want to be climbing around holiday lights to get to your camping gear before a weekend trip or shuffling around a tree and ornaments to pull out your mountain bike for a ride. So first, consider what space you have to store and which storage spaces you use the least. Since you need to access them only once a year, seasonal items like holiday decorations are a great fit for attics, sheds, or those dark corners of the basement you don’t visit too often. Save the more accessible storage space for your adventure gear or whatever items you access most.

Gear Up for Proper Storage

You wouldn’t send a tough sport climb without the proper equipment – and you shouldn’t expect storage to work well for you without first making sure you have the tools you need. Stashing your holiday gear will be far simpler if you have the right storage containers. Choose plastic bins over cardboard boxes that can invite moisture and pests. Bins are also safe to stack – where boxes can collapse and fall – and will help you to maximize your space, so you can fit in more of the stuff you love every day.

Keep the Lights Contained

If the mention of storing your holiday gear makes you cringe, it’s probably thanks to the most festive and most maddening of holiday decorations: string lights. Having a plan for storing any string lights will free up valuable space in your closet or garage and help you clear your head, so you can get back to crushing mountain runs or hiking your favorite winter trails. Whether it’s a storage box or a light reel, make a game plan for keeping your lights under control.

Start an Inventory System

What’s worse than digging through endless boxes of holiday stuff to find the one thing you’re really looking for? Save yourself time and energy by starting an inventory system for your seasonal gear. You can number your storage bins and track their contents in a corresponding spreadsheet that’s easy to update every year. Try color-coding your storage bins to represent the contents, too. That way, it’s quick and easy to pull out that one special item.

Grab a Storage Locker

Maybe you haven’t used one for storage since high school, but a locker might be the perfect storage solution for your holiday gear. Smaller than a standard storage unit, they’re also a more affordable option and work well if you only need to store small personal or seasonal items. Sharing your living space? Get a locker to clear out that closet and make more room for the gear you use on your everyday adventures. Locker storage makes it easy to access any of the contents of your unit, and you’ll always have peace of mind knowing your stuff is secured.
