5 Ways to Declutter & Dominate 2021

|

Things may have gotten a little messy over the past year. Decluttering is the perfect way to get a fresh start. Get ahead on defining your 2021 with StorQuest’s top five tips to help you get organized and make this year your most awesome one yet.

Work Your Way

When you start thinking about all the work you have ahead of you, decluttering can seem like a herculean task. There’s no need to feel intimidated. Instead, focus on one room at a time. You can even go smaller than that if it helps. Start with a single drawer, closet, or corner, and work your way throughout your home from there – room by room, inch by inch. You’ve got this.

Set Goals

When you figure out how you want to go about organizing your space, set realistic goals. Write them down, and put your list somewhere you’ll see it every day to motivate yourself and measure success. If you need another friendly reminder, set alarms on your phone about upcoming deadlines. Benchmarks give you a healthy dose of satisfaction, and are a powerful reminder that you are in control. Don’t forget to check off a task upon completion. That won’t help you declutter things any faster, but it sure does feel good.

Upgrade Your Bins

Cardboard boxes get the job done in a pinch, but plastic bins or totes are next level. Stackable and durable, a good set of bins help maximize your space – and better protect your things if you ever need to transport them. You can also get crafty about how you store your stuff. Get a narrow kitchen trolley that’ll slide between your fridge and the wall. Utilize your vertical space with tall and/or wall shelves. Use some hooks to hang your mountain bike from the ceiling in your garage. A little bit goes a long way.

Make Separate Piles

As you sort through your stuff, you may come across things you no longer have any use for. Have separate baskets ready to help you sort out between what you’re keeping, repairing, donating, selling, or storing. Don’t worry about properly packing now – this is just to help you manage your inventory.

Get Extra Space

Sometimes the things that take up the most room are the most valuable. If space is a little tight at home, consider renting a storage unit. StorQuest has tons of secure and convenient locations so you can keep your gear protected and ready for adventure at a moment’s notice.

Your Stuff Matters. So Does Your Journey.
