5 Tips for Refocusing Your 2020 Goals


It’s normal to have setbacks any year, but 2020 has thrown everyone a particular set of circumstances that may have sidelined your goals. Don’t let that stop you from achieving them! If you’re feeling refreshed and motivated to take on the challenges you set for yourself at the start of 2020, these five tips will help you stay driven for the rest of the year – and beyond.

Check in With Yourself 

Before you dive in, it’s good to touch base with yourself and review your goals. Namely, do you still want to do them? Maybe your priorities have shifted and you have new dreams you want to pursue. Once you’ve decided you really want to do something, you’re ready for the fun part – doing it!

Start Small. Define Your Success.

Give yourself modest goals to start with. Then, continue building from there. If your objective is to do 100 push-ups a day and you’re starting from zero, you’ll soon find you’re likely doing more harm than good trying to rush to your end goal. Use this time at the beginning of your journey to refine your approach – experiment with what works best for you, and work from there.

Set Reminders

It takes a while before new habits stick. Months, in fact. To help yourself remember to work on your goals, set a repeating reminder on your phone. Put up sticky notes in frequented places. Make up a mantra you repeat throughout the day to pump yourself up. Do whatever you can to remind yourself you have this new thing you do now.

Make It Part of Your Routine

Tying into this idea, you can give yourself extra support by integrating your objective plan into your everyday routine. Dedicate a time slot where you work on your goal, and only your goal. Eventually, it’ll just become a habit. You won’t even have to think about it, you’ll just do it.

Get Good Sleep

You’re excited about starting your goals, and that’s great! But you need energy if you’re going to give it your best effort. With a good night’s sleep, your productivity will increase tenfold, making it much easier to tackle everything else. Small changes go a long way. Keep screen time to a minimum before bedtime. Stay away from caffeine and alcohol in the evenings. Ditch nicotine. Stick to a sleep schedule. (Yes, even on weekends.) You’ll thank yourself later.

Make Room. Then Make It Happen.
