5 Tips for an Epic StorQuest Hobby Closet

|

A hobby closet should be a source of fun, inspiration, and function. Turning your StorQuest storage unit into a space to hold all your art supplies or adventure gear in one place can be a game-changer. Below are our top five tips to help you turn your assortment of supplies into an epic hobby closet that will take your craft to a whole new level.

Take Out Old Supplies

First thing’s first. You need to know what you’re keeping in your hobby closet before you can start thinking about the how. If you have been invested in a hobby for a while, it’s likely that you have switched between brands or material as you’ve learned more about your preferences. Maybe you’ve moved on to using higher-grade materials for your projects. Or maybe you have way too many day packs or hiking boots. Test out your gear and supplies and make arrangements to, sell or donate otherwise useful materials you don’t want or need.

Sort It Out

Now that you know what you’re keeping, it’s time to make the most of your space and stay organized. Sort everything as you see fit. By craft, by material type, by color – it really doesn’t matter. So long as it makes sense to you and your projects, you’re on the right track. The point is to create a system that will help you when you need a specific item. That way, you’ll know exactly where to find it (and where to put it back). We recommend sorting and organizing adventure gear by season and sport but do whatever comes naturally to you.

Stack Everything

Make use of your vertical space. There are plenty of stackable storage containers you could consider, and you may unknowingly already have plenty of options at home. Bins, baskets, totes, crates – use what you have at your disposal. Don’t neglect the ceiling or wall space either. Hooks and wall shelves can carry you a long way toward optimizing your space.

Label Everything

Eventually, you will become very familiar with your hobby closet. You’ll know exactly where to find each and every item – or, at least, precisely where to look for it – on intuition alone. But starting off, you’re going to need to help yourself out and keep everything labeled. Every box, every drawer, every crate. You can keep it simple and slap a strip of masking tape on a surface or you can get fancy and use custom color-coded stickers. Whatever makes you feel good, do it.

Find Reasons to Go Back

You have big project plans, but sometimes life happens and you run out of time. It’s easy to neglect your passions in a busy life, especially with so many distractions that provide immediate gratification. But you have a hobby closet for a reason. The more you use your special space, the more you’ll refine it. The more you refine it, the easier it’ll be for you to come back to. To motivate yourself, take on new projects. Is a friend’s birthday coming up? Make them something – they’ll appreciate it more than something they could buy for themselves. Let your skills enrich the lives of those around you and see how quickly you find your spark.

Make Room. Then Make It Happen.
