5 Things You Can Do To Celebrate Earth Month

Let's celebrate Earth Month by learning, doing, and participating to help create a sustainable future for our planet. At StorQuest, we believe every little step counts, and together, we can make a big impact.

Volunteer in the Great Outdoors

There are tons of opportunities to give back to the environment this month. From beach clean-ups, to volunteering at your local state park, signing the Global Plastics Treaty or donating to an awesome nonprofit, there are numerous ways that you can make an impact. Every action big or small goes a long way.

Host An Environmental Movie Night

This is an excellent way for anyone who loves documentary-style or animated films to celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd. These movies have inspired audiences worldwide to reflect on the state of the environment and take action to protect our planet for future generations.

  • Unchained Goddess: If you love all things retro, check out this highly regarded movie (1958), part of a collection of educational films produced by Frank Capra Productions in collaboration with Bell Laboratories.
  • Pixar's "WALL-E" is an animated film (2008) that sends a powerful message about the importance of environmental stewardship and sustainability.
  • An Inconvenient Truth: The academy-award-winning film (2006) follows former Vice President Al Gore as he presents evidence of climate change and advocates for urgent action.
  • Before the Flood: Leonardo DiCaprio brings his star power to this movie (2016) exploring the immediate need for renewable energy solutions to mitigate fossil fuel's impact on the planet.

Involve the Kids In Eco-Craft Projects

Get creative with these DIY crafts on Earth Day that will help teach children about sustainability. From making recycled paper to creating bird feeders from household items, there's something for everyone to enjoy while contributing to a healthier planet.

  • Upcycled Bird Feeders: Create bird feeders using recycled items like toilet paper rolls or plastic bottles, then hang them outside to attract birds and support wildlife.
  • Seed Bombs: Make small clay balls mixed with compost and wildflower seeds to toss into bare areas for wildflower growth and pollinator support.
  • Nature Collage Art: Collect leaves, flowers, and twigs on a nature walk and arrange them into creative designs on paper or cardboard.

Plan A Community Gear Swap

Gear swaps are good for the planet and good for your wallet. You can focus a swap around one sport or several, like skiing, mountain biking, paddle boarding, and camping.

  • Plan: Secure a venue and advertise the event through local channels and word of mouth.
  • Organize: On event day, provide designated areas for different gear categories and encourage participants to label their items.
  • Downcycle: Promote sustainability by encouraging recycling and donation of unwanted gear.
  • Gratitude: Remember to say thank you to everyone for supporting community engagement and outdoor recreation.

Go Plogging And Impress Your Friends

If you've ever done a beach clean-up run, you'll understand the idea behind plogging. Originating in Sweden, plogging combines two Swedish words—plocka (to pick up) and jogga (to jog) jogging—Plogging. So here's the deal: Ploggers carry trash bags and gloves while jogging, then stop, swoop down—as gracefully as possible—and scoop up litter, hopefully, without breaking a stride. This growing movement is a novel and fun way to clean up your city and shape up your fitness and flexibility.

Together, We Can Make A Difference

When you rent a unit at StorQuest, we donate $1 for every rental to an environmental nonprofit in the community it serves. The world is an awesome place, so let’s #RootForTheFuture together!
