Amelia Island, Florida
Salty air, a light breeze, toes in the sand and a drink in your hand – Amelia Island, Florida, is a beachy utopia. Breakaway from the hustle and find a little peace on 13 miles of shoreline filled with the chill vibes you’d expect from a mellow ocean town. Since the water is never far from sight and the roadways are so cycle-friendly, biking the island is a must-do. Ride the tree-lined Amelia Island Trail, or restaurant hop and snag some of the most sought-after shrimp dishes in the area.
Sedona, Arizona
Sedona, Arizona, is known as a geological wonderland. Over 300 miles of trails are surrounded by multi-colored stone formations, pops of greenery, and stunning sunrises. See it all first-hand with a Jeep Tour or experience the jaw-dropping landscape from above with a hot air balloon ride over the canyons. Yogis from all over gather at the Sedona Yoga Festival in March to soak in the energy of the surrounding beauty. At the end of the day, make your way into town for an evening sipping local wine fireside, preferably wrapped in a Pendleton blanket.
Orcas Island, Washington
Orcas Island is known as “The Gem of the San Juans.” Feel the island vibes from the moment you step on the Anacortes ferry, which offers incredible views all the way to the port. Once you’re there, 38 miles of hiking trails at Moran State Park are yours. Throw on your boots and take in classic PNW landscapes, or opt for a slow drive up Mount Constitution, the highest point on the island. Get out on the water by kayak, experience the wildlife on a whale watching tour, or rent a boat and fish for fresh seafood.
Blue Hole, New Mexico
Find your escape at the Blue Hole in New Mexico, a stunning, sapphire-blue lake in the middle of the desert. Divers travel from all over the world to experience this natural phenomenon. With crystal clear visibility for 100 feet, who could blame them? Try your hand at exploring the world underneath the water, or dive in from the desert rocks surrounding this incredible little haven. Pro tip: If you’re heading here from Albuquerque, be sure to take Route 66, where there is a stretch of rumble strips that – if you’re going exactly 45 MPH – plays “America the Beautiful.”
La Mauricie National Park, Quebec
For an international escape, check out La Mauricie National Park in Quebec. Just a hop away from the New York-Canada border is a paradise for snow-searchers with over 150 icy lakes, dramatic hill lines, and 207 square miles to explore. Fat bike the endless trails, cross-country ski through arctic terrain, or even snowshoe your way across a frozen lake. Hardcore winter lovers will set up camp right there in the snow, but if a log cabin is more your style, check out the rustic Domaine Wabenaki-Andrew chalets.
