There is nothing like a road trip – it’s a way to have an epic journey and take in the sights from ground level at your own pace. At StorQuest, we’ve come up with five destinations that are perfect for your weekend wanderings from Buckeye, Arizona.
Sedona
Sedona is at the top of the list because it checks all the boxes that make traveling by car worthwhile. In this case, it’s not only about the destination – it’s about the amazing scenery you pass as part of your journey. Or course, once in Sedona, enjoy everything that makes this spot spectacular like world-class hikes, full-suspension-worthy single-track, local art galleries, and classic Southwest dining and drinks. Add in the promise of epic sunrises and sunsets, and you have no excuse not to leave for Sedona this weekend.
Flagstaff
This busy college town is worth the crowds. Flagstaff is the place to find a morning spot to linger over locally roasted coffee before heading to Arizona Snowbowl for some epic turns. Crowds dissipate on the open, north-facing slopes – and you’ll even find stashes of pow late in the day in the Glades. Then enjoy the scenic drive back to town and wander in and out of any number of pubs featuring talented local musicians.
Grand Canyon National Park
Grand Canyon National Park is a must-see-in-your-lifetime kind of destination. Standing at the south rim, taking in the view, and contemplating the power of the Colorado River is not to be missed. Nor are the historic buildings conceived by architect Mary Colter, including Hopi House, Lookout Studio, and Bright Angel Lodge.
Joshua Tree National Park
While this might be the farthest destination on our list, making the trip from Buckeye to California’s desert treasure is worth the caffeine that fueled you there. Here, you’ll experience sweeping views of namesake Joshua Trees as well as world-class climbing routes with names like Cakewalk, Breakfast of Champions, and White Lightning.
Bisbee
Bisbee is the real deal. It’s Old West Arizona with adventure around every bend. Hike side canyons called Tombstone and Brewery Gulch right from town, take a tour into the depths of a copper mine, and raise a craft brew in a building as old as the town. Another reason to visit here during winter – crowds are tame, which means more opportunity for solitude.
