If you’re planning an epic trip this spring, you gotta think big. StorQuest has put together a must-see list of five countries with opportunities for out-of-this-world adventures. So break out your passport and grab a friend or two – things are about to get awesome.
1) Belize
The tropical waters in Belize average 84 degrees year-round, making it your personal playground for scuba diving and snorkeling. Two absolute must-dos? The first is a trip to the Great Blue Hole, an all-day bucket-list dive with crystal-clear waters, dark caves, and tons of stalactites. Then, you can’t pass up a chance to experience Shark Ray Alley, which gets you snorkeling up close and personal with nurse sharks, stingrays, and turtles in over 1,200 acres of protected waters.
2) Austria
For those who aren’t quite ready to let go of powder days, there is nothing like spring skiing in the Austrian Alps. Here you’re surrounded by countless deep-snow slopes, seemingly unending downhill runs, and some of the best carving conditions in the world. For some of the most challenging runs in the Alps, check out St. Anton am Arlberg. While you’re there, be sure to take the connecting cableway to Lech-Zurs am Arlberg to experience backcountry paradise.
3) Southern Thai Islands
For your first stop in Thailand, make your way to the island of Koh Phi Phi, famous for its insane cliff jumping. Once you’ve caught enough of a rush, rent a boat for a few hours to go game fishing. You just might stumble upon one of the dozens of private islets while you’re out exploring. Looking to find your inner om? Stop number two takes you to the island of Koh Samui, known for its incredible yoga retreat set high into the rainforest, Kamalaya.
4) Portugal
Portugal has something for everyone, no matter what kind of experience you’re after. Considered a true hiker’s paradise, Rota Vicentina is where you’ll find 279 miles of trails winding along the southwest coast. For more of an adrenaline rush, you could experience the country from up above by skydiving in Alentejo – one of the top skydiving locations in Portugal. When it’s time to hit the water, you won’t want to miss surfing monster waves at Nazare or the world-class breaks at Peniche.
5) Australia
It may be halfway around the globe, but Australia is an all-encompassing adventure. The country has it all – from kayaking the beautiful Whitsunday Islands to sandboarding the dunes in New South Wales. If you’re making the trek this far, there is one thing you can’t miss – shark cage diving in the southern region. Getting up close and personal with great white sharks here is an unforgettable experience that rivals more well-known shark cage diving spots in South Africa.
